Energy Queensland has a permanent opportunity for a Structural or Civil Engineer in our Civil Substations Group located in Townsville and are inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates. Energy Queensland is a 100% state owned utility that supplies energy to our customers across the state.
The Civil Substations Group is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of Civil and Structural works inside Substations and Power Stations, which includes but is not limited to:
- Low Rise Buildings (up to three stories)
- Equipment Structures, Poles, Towers and Footings
- Earthworks, Retaining Walls, Access Tracks, Driveways, Stormwater Drainage, Sewer and Water
- Fuel and Transformers Bunds and Oil containment
- Connections of Renewables to the Network
The Successful Candidate duties and responsibilities will include the following:
- Project Estimates
- Engineering Calculations
- Detailed Design Documentation
- Managing External Consultants
- Preparation of Tender Documentation and Tender Evaluation
- Contract Administration and Management of Civil Contractors
- Site Investigations and Inspections
- Assessment of Aged Structures and Buildings.
- Mentoring and developing internal design staff.
- Project Management
- Solve complex problems and recognise opportunities to innovate.
- Maintain or Work Towards RPEQ Status
Essential Selection Criteria include:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Eligible for registration as an RPEQ.
- Prepared to travel occasionally within the state
- Current Driver Licence
- 5 years plus relevant experience
- Experience in engineering calculations and analysis techniques
- Experience in construction inspections and managing Contractors
- Ability to work as part of a team and to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
- Desirable Knowledge of construction and maintenance works relevant to high voltage substations and remote community power stations as well as Demonstrated experience in contract administration

The position has been evaluated as Professional & Managerial Grade Two (PM2). Remuneration will range from $122,132 - $158,594 per annum. The level of payment will be subject to an assessment of the successful applicant’s knowledge, skills and competencies that are required in this position. Conditions of employment are in accordance with the Energy Queensland Union Collective Agreement 2022.
